Coach's Corner
Another great week of swim is in the books! Our swimmers continue to grow stronger, more confident, and more prepared for upcoming team trials. Here’s a look at what each group accomplished this week and what’s ahead next week.
Kit Club
Our Kit Club swimmers are growing stronger every day as they continue building their introductory swim skills and becoming more independent in the water. Several swimmers had the exciting opportunity to begin assisted laps across the pool and experience the adventures the deep end has to offer.
Next week, we will continue progressing through introductory swim skills as the children become more comfortable with basic water safety and swimming fundamentals. Our goal is to prepare some swimmers to participate in the team trial meet on Saturday.
4–8 Age Group
6 & Under
The 6 & Under group has started swimming more full laps as their introductory swim skills and endurance continue to improve. This week, we focused primarily on freestyle while increasing the number of full-length swims, along with introducing some backstroke work throughout practice.
Next week, we will continue working on freestyle with swimmers completing full lengths of the pool more independently and with fewer tools. We will also focus on consistent breathing techniques and finish the week with additional backstroke work to help prepare swimmers for team trials.
7–8 Group
The 7–8 group is progressing very well in freestyle and backstroke and is beginning to understand backstroke stroke counts confidently. This week, we shifted our focus toward breaststroke and butterfly, spending time thoroughly explaining how to properly perform and legally compete each stroke. There is still work to do, but the group is off to a great start.
Next week, we will continue refining butterfly and breaststroke while also beginning instruction on dives and backstroke starts so swimmers are prepared for competition entries during team trials.
9–12 Age Group
The 9–12 group spent the entire week learning how to properly complete and legally compete each stroke, focusing on one stroke at a time as we prepare for next week’s team trials. We also worked on dives and backstroke starts to help swimmers feel more confident with their starts during competition.
Next week, we will continue practicing dives, review legal stroke techniques, and begin teaching swimmers how to properly complete the 100 I.M.
13 & Up
This week, the 13 & Up group focused on making sure each individual stroke — freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly — is legal and as technically sound as possible. We spent a significant amount of time reviewing proper starts and turns while also practicing dives to ensure swimmers feel confident entering competition.
In addition, this group was introduced to the 200 I.M. so that our 15–18 swimmers are prepared for that event next weekend.
Next week, we will continue preparing for Saturday’s team trials with additional work on starts, turns, stroke technique, and the 200 I.M. to ensure every swimmer feels confident and competition ready.
*REMINDER* No water practice on Tuesday May 12th. Bring dryland clothes and athletic shoes
